I started training Jiu Jitsu when I was twenty after many years of wrestling. I have not stopped. I now teach both kids and adults in Fort Lauderdale where everyone who steps on the mat is on their own journey of growth and expression through Jiu Jitsu.
That’s the short version. The rest of this page is what those years have added up to.
The longer story
Wrestling built the base.
Jiu Jitsu became the life.
I came up through wrestling — many years of it. At twenty I stepped onto a Jiu Jitsu mat, and I have not stepped off since. Wrestling taught me how to work. Jiu Jitsu gave me somewhere to keep going.
What has kept me on the mat isn’t medals or belts. It’s what the training does to people. Everyone who steps on the mat is on their own journey of growth and expression through Jiu Jitsu — that isn’t a slogan to me. It’s the thing I watch happen, in my students and in myself, every week.
I built Couchon BJJ on the idea that Jiu Jitsu doesn’t only shape its practitioners. It shapes communities, and it gives people a way to become their most authentic selves. That’s why the room holds total newcomers, casual hobbyists, and hardcore competitors at the same time — the art has space for all of them, and the gym should too.

Kids’ Program.
Most weekdays, on the mat.
Kids train here most weekdays. They learn real Jiu Jitsu, taught patiently, one piece at a time — how to fall safely, how to pay attention, how to try hard things in front of other people, and how to look after their training partners.

Adults’ Program.
Every journey welcome.
Total newcomers, casual hobbyists, and hardcore competitors share the same mat. Newcomers get patient fundamentals. Competitors get honest rounds and detail. Everyone trains in a room that works hard and looks after each other.
