About Will

Twenty years on the mat.
Still finding what’s there.

I started training jiu jitsu when I was twenty. I haven’t stopped. Wrestling first, then the gi, then no-gi, then the long study of how the parts connect. I teach in Fort Lauderdale, where I run a small gym that’s mostly kids during the week and adults on weekends. The Online Academy is where I bring the rest of the work — the lessons, the writing, the way I see it — to people anywhere who want to study seriously.

The Five Most Important
Techniques in Jiu Jitsu.

Beginner or expert — the five foundations that never stop mattering, in the voice of someone still in the work. The hip escape. The mount escape. The closed guard. The rear naked choke. The technical stand-up. Why these, and the corrections most schools skip.

Professor Will Couchon III

Most jiu jitsu online is built for the audience the platforms find easiest to sell to. That’s never been my audience. I built this academy for the practitioner who wants to know how the parts connect — who reads the position rather than memorizes the move, who would rather study one thing carefully than collect twenty in a week. If that’s you, you’ll know within ten minutes of the first lesson. Try it for seven days.

From the practice

Two voices.

“Will’s approach changed how I think about the mat, not just what I do on it. That distinction matters.”

Marco R. · Purple Belt · Online Academy

“It’s the only thing my son has stuck with for more than three months. Will treats him like a person, not a behavior problem.”

Jess A. · Parent of a 9-year-old student

Once a month · Kids program

Parents’ Day.
On the mat, together.

Once a month, parents step onto the mat with their kids and learn jiu jitsu side by side. Same warm-up. Same drills. Same coaching. No experience needed — from either of you. It’s the most honest thing a parent can do: not watch from the bleachers, but train alongside the kid you’re asking to show up.
